    Happy Halloween

Ah, such a fun day for the kiddies. My daughter went off to school with three small pumpkins to carve. Yesterday at school they JUST found out they were allowed to carve. A little late for my liking. We went to four different stores last night searching for pumpkins because we already carved all ours. We finally managed to find a couple that weren't rotten at our farm market!

Is anyone dressing up. I am. Here's my costume. What do you think?

    Heading to the city.
Paula Eykelhof from Harlequin Toronto is visiting our local RWA chapter this weekend. I'm excited and can't wait to meet her. Tonight our small chapter is taking her to dinner and tomorrow we have a full day of workshops. It should be fun and enlightening.

So I'm heading to the city overnight because the meeting is bright and early tomorrow morning, and I live 2 hours away.

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend. I just thought of something, we turn the clocks back tomorrow night don't we? I love that extra hour but hate when it's dark at 5 o'clock. That's just depressing.

    Happy Monday

I did not want to get out of bed today, I really didn't. I spent the weekend working on a proposal and just wanted to sleep in today. Although I must say after working hard all weekend, I did take the day off.

My girlfriend from Ontario came for a visit so I picked her up at the airport and we hung out and went to lunch. I don't think I'll be eating for 2 days, I'm so full.

It was so nice to see her and just chat. I live in a military community and over the years all my friends have moved away... :(((( So I miss going out to lunch and hanging out with girlfriends.

On another note, the fabulous Sasha White just had some gorgeous bookmarks made for LUSH, her Kensington Aphrodisia April 2007 release!! I was privileged enough to read this book and let me tell you it's excellent.

I love her bookmarks and the cover is so perfect. I won't tell you why, but after you read the third story in this anthology you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. She used my quote on the front of her bookmark and I'm just so tickled by that.

    Turning 40
Today is my birthday, a time to reflect. I’ve heard so many people say they cried when they turned 40. I know one of my sisters didn’t get out of bed and spent the entire day in tears. I’m not sure why. Although I did enjoy saying, I’m in my thirties, I don’t think being 40 is going to be so bad. I think back to 20 years ago and a conversation with my parents. I remember thinking 40 was so old! LOL, my how my thinking has changed.

I also think back 20 years ago and look at my goals.
Did I think I would be a writer? Not at all. I was in university working toward a business degree majoring in accounting and economics.

Did I think I’d be married? This is a tough question for me. I was very driven when I was younger. I was never one to dream of weddings and Prince Charming. I was a realist. I was going to get a degree. I was going to get a great job. I was going to drive a Mercedes. And I was never, ever going to rely on a man for anything.

Did I think I would have two children? Not in a million years. This might surprise some of you who know me well, but when I was growing up, and in my early 20’s I did NOT want kids. I didn’t tell people this, of course, but apparently I put that image out to the world. I remember when I got pregnant. I was working in the finance department for Environment Canada and after I told my co-workers I was pregnant they looked ghastly. They were asking, are you happy? Are you okay? Finally I asked someone why people were acting that way. She told me that I was so driven in my career and that I wasn’t the nurturing, motherly type at all. I guess I can understand the reaction seeing as the image I put out there. I also remember running into friends from high school after I had two children and was a stay at home mom. They were just as shocked. Especially the stay-at-home mom part. In high school I used to adamantly say. “I will never, ever rely on a man for anything.” Geez, I was jaded at such a young age wasn’t I.

My how things have changed over the years. And you know what. I wouldn’t change a thing about my life. I have two fabulous children and a wonderful husband and couldn’t be happier.

I crawled out of bed this morning and both kids screamed Happy Birthday. My son made me a card, (I love homemade cards) It says to the #1 mom…you know you’re a soccer mom whey you’re at your kids tryouts on your 40th birthday.

    I love it.

So am I doing anything special for my birthday, you wonder?
    Here’s my schedule.

    Two critiques for friends.

Write 6 pages of my own work

At 3 o’clock, pick my son up and take him to a soccer game.

At 5 o’clock pick my daughter up from volley ball.

    5:10 Feed my hungry kids.

At 6:30 take my son to his last try out for the tier one game. Get home about 9:45

10:00 have a glass of wine with hubby (who is working a 12 hour shift today)

    10:30 fall into bed.

Ahhh, the perfect way to spend my 40th birthday!!

    Addiction
Okay, today is the day I admit I have a problem...sigh...I think I need intervention of some sort. On Saturday night my daughter and I bought a box of 100 chocolate bars for Halloween...well...it pains me to admit this, but it's almost gone. Okay, okay, I admit it, I have an addiction...sniff. I must seek help.

Now on to brighter things. Last night hubby and I went to See The Departed (yes i had chocolate jammed into my pockets) with Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, and Mark Wahlberg, yeah, of course there were other guys in it too, but do you really think they needed to be mention. Uh no!!
Man, I LOVED this movie. It was like hormone overload at times though. I absolutely love these three guys. Leonardo was my favorite in the movie. I think he's such a fantastic actor. He always blows me away.

Mark wasn't that crazy about, but he didn't have three hot babe's to drool over all night either.

I give this movie a two thumbs up.

Now where the hell did the kid hide the rest of those bars...hmmm....

    Gorgeous Sunday!
Ah, what a lazy gorgeous Sunday. After days of rain the sun is shining and the orange, yellow and red leaves are falling from the trees and covering my lawn. I love fall.

I have white posts in front of my house which we decorated with corn stalks and colorful Indian corn. I sprayed the corn with Krylon to keep the birds off, but it didn't work. Blue jays are everywhere, they've pretty much cleaned the corn off the cobs. I hope the spray doesnt hurt them in any way.

Last night I had the house to myself!! That never happens. Hubby was working and my daughter was invited to a sleep over so my son and I were going to watch a movie. Then around 9 he got invited out. So it was just me and the doggy. Can anyone guess what I did!!!

I went to be early!! YAY. And caught up on my sleep. I feel so refreshed this morning. After the kids come home I think we'll go for a hike to the falls. Beautiful spot. If we go, I'll take pictures and post.

I'm having a birthday next week. Ugh...It's the big one. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I know age is only a state of mind but I quite enjoy saying I'm in my thirties! I'll spend my birthday working and then in the evening at the indoor soccer complex. Alex has his final try out for the Tier one A team. His try outs are going really well. I know he really, really wants this. Every morning before school he gets up extra early and goes for a run to condition himself. (he's a sprinter, not a long distance runner, so he's trying to work on his areas of weakness) He even got up early Saturday. I tell ya, I don't know many 14 year old boys who would get up early on a school morning or a weekend to do that. Obviously this means a lot to him!

I have my galley's for Lover's Locket in front of me. This is my story in Alluring Tales. I've made two passes already but want to make one more before sending it back. I find it funny that you can pre order Alluring Tales on Amazon and I have my story sitting in front of me.

I hope everyone has a lazy, but fabulous Sunday!!
    Hugs!

    Halloween safety
I borrowed this from Liddy's blog. Thought it was funny

Rules to live by at Halloween

It's getting closer to Halloween, and it's never too early to start practicing your survival skills!
Here are a few tips to help you get through this potentially dangerous season.

When it appears that you have killed the monster, NEVER check to see if it's really dead.

If you find that your house is built upon or near a cemetery, was once a church used for black masses, had previous inhabitants who went mad or committed suicide or died in some horrible fashion, or had inhabitants who performed satanic practices in your house, move away immediately. Don't even go inside to pack. Hire moving professionals for that. Let them take the risks.

Never read a book of demon summoning aloud, even as a joke.

Do not search the basement, especially if the power has just gone out.

If your children speak to you in Latin or any other language which they should not know, or if they speak to you using a voice that is other than their own, shoot them immediately. It will save you a lot of grief in the long run.
NOTE: It will probably take several rounds to kill them, so be prepared and stay the course. Reload immediately.

When you have the benefit of numbers, NEVER pair off and go it alone.

As a general rule, don't solve puzzles that open portals to Hell.
Never stand in, on, above, below, beside, or anywhere near a grave, tomb, crypt, mausoleum, or other house of the dead.

If you're searching for something that caused a noise and find out that it's only the cat, leave the room immediately if you value your life. Leave the cat behind, just in case.

If any appliances start operating by themselves, move out. Preferably several states away.

Do not take *anything* from the dead. No matter what they promise. No exceptions!

If you find a town that looks deserted, it's probably for a reason. Take the hint and stay away.

Don't fool with recombinant DNA technology unless you're sure you know what you are doing.

If you're running from the monster, expect to trip or fall down at least twice, more if you are of the female persuasion. Also note that, despite the fact that you are running and the monster is merely shambling along, it's still moving fast enough to catch up with you.

If your companions suddenly begin to exhibit uncharacteristic behavior such as hissing, fascination for blood, glowing eyes, increasing hairiness, and so on, get away from them as fast as possible.

Stay away from certain geographical locations, including those listed here: Amityville, Elm Street, Transylvania, Nilbog (you're in trouble if you recognize this one), the Bermuda Triangle, or any small town in Indiana.

If your car runs out of gas at night, do not go to the nearby deserted-looking house to phone for help. (Cell phones have made life safer. Make sure yours is charged. Do not drive into areas without adequate coverage.)

Beware of strangers bearing tools such as chainsaws, staple guns, hedge trimmers, electric carving knives, combines, lawnmowers, butane torches, soldering irons, band saws, or any device made from deceased companions.

    I hope this helps!!

    Thanksgiving Weekend
Well, it didn't quite go as planned. I invited my family (10 people) for dinner on Sunday so I got up and started to prepare my huge turkey and all the fixings when my phone rings..and as you all know, an early morning phone call is never a good thing. So I find out my 18 year old nephew got beat up by 6 guys and is in the hospital. It was a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

He's doing okay now but man, he's unrecognizable. He's in rough shape, lots of broken bones and is so lucky to be alive. The girl he was with saved his life. As the boys were stomping on his head, she kept screaming and throwing herself on him to protect him. They continued to drag her off and kept beating him. Had it not been for her...I hate to even think what would have happened.

I don't see a lot of my nephew because he lives far from me and I called him three times last week to make sure he was coming to dinner. After he was conscious the first thing he says to me is I'm sorry I never made it to dinner. Poor kid. He's actually lucky to be alive. We postponed dinner until Monday and only my sister and two kids could make it. We sure had a lot to be thankful for as we shared a meal.

I plan to have a Thanksgiving do-over when my nephew is feeling up to it. The other kids all decorated cookies for him.

Thanksgiving didn't go as planned but something like this sure makes you take pause and be thankful for an awful lot.

The characters hit it fast and hit it hard, barely containing their lust for each other. This is a quick read, with a simple plot and easy language, and an even quicker rise to heated passion. If you're in the market for something beyond your average sex scene but short of elaborate kink, Fox's book is perfect.

Summary: Desperate to keep their jobs and obtain grant funding for their newest project, lab scientists Laura Manning and Jay Cutler take matters into their own hands -- and then into their bedrooms -- as they test the libido-enhancing serum they're developing. The heightened passion leaves them both reeling, Jay wondering if he really is the "Cold-Hearted Cutler" his mom dubbed him as a child, and Laura pondering if her dreams have come true -- or was it just the serum talking?
