    Covers

I've been giving covers a lot of thought lately. Soon I'll be asked by Avon to give my ideas on what I'd like for a cover for Pleasure Control. Even though clinch covers supposedly sell better, I'm not crazy about them. I'd like a sexy guy on the cover but would you women out there be embarassed reading a book like this on the bus?
Clinch or no clinch, that is the question.

    Revisions
As I work on revisions for Pleasure Prolonged, I suddenly realize I need one more scene to close a dangling thread. So I plan on doing that this week and then this baby is off to my editor, who probably doesn't want to see it until after Christmas, I'm sure.

    Oh boy!
Like most writers I know I have an office in my home. This has many advantages as well as disavantages. For me, privacy becomes an issue because I write very sexy erotic romance and have two children. Yesterday, I was outside and when I came in my 11 year old daughter said, Mom I'd like to see you in your office for a minute. So I followed her in and she pointed to my notes sitting on my desk and the word Fuck was written there. Although appaled, she seemed a little amused as well. She said, you write words like this! In Romance books!!
Apparently, she even called her 12 year old brother to come in and see "the word" while I was outside.
I had to explain to her, that although I don't ever use the word myself...cough...clearing throat...my characters do. In order to make my tough alpha cop seem real, this is the lanugage he'd use.
Grinning like the Chestshire chat, she was like, uh huh, yeah, sure....
    Oh boy!!

    Basket Ball Season!!!!

YAY It's basketball tryouts at my son's junior high. I guess you're all assuming I like basketball right? Well...not really. So why am I excited, you ask? Because the basketball coach is HOT!! LOL
My son said to my daughter the other day, I don't think I want to play basketball this year but I HAVE to. My daughter asked him why and he said so mom can come watch the coach.
It's quite surprising how many supportive mother's come out during the season!!

The Friends we can count on!
Today as I sit at my computer reading my friends excellent, as of yet unpublished Fantasy novel that is definitely going to hit the best sellers list I can't help thinking how lucky I am. I am so thankful for the wonderful, lifelong friends I have met since deciding I wanted a career in writing. Friends who will drop whatever they are doing to help me out with a critique, a plot problem, a meltdown, or just someone to talk to.
I feel very blessed to have such wonderful, supportive friends.
I could sit here and name names but I think you all know who your are.
    Hugs to you all!!

    Almost finished
Today, I'm hoping to finish the last scene of my story, Pleasure Prolonged for Avon!!
I was going to take a break before digging into the third book, Pleasure Exchange and work on my dark paranormal vamp story, Con-Quest but I changed my mind. I think I'll keep going with these stories, since they're under contract and I'm getting paid to write them.
Con-Quest is at Tor right now but I haven't heard anything in a long while. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

    Allure Author Myla Jackson

Meet Myla Jackson!! Here is my last excerpt from the ALLURE AUTHORS! Enjoy!
    TROUBLE WITH HARRY
    http://www.mylajackson.com/

PrologueZagros Mountains in the Kingdom of Iraq 1924 Harry Taylor brushed his hat against his dust-crusted trousers and knelt in front of the sarcophagus. Pry bar in hand, he paused. Within the heavy coffin lay the culmination of five years searching, studying and digging in the driest of deserts near the base of the Zagros Mountains. "Are you going to open it, or what?" William Prater, Harry's assistant and friend, stood on the other side of the stone platform, sand and sweat streaking his blond devil-may-care looks. "Whatever you do, hurry it up. You never know when those tomb guards will show again.""Or the meddling British, for that matter. Give me a hand with this thing." Harry jammed the pry bar between the lid and the casing and leaned hard on it. A crunching, scraping noise accompanied the incremental movement of the cover as it rasped across the top, revealing the treasure within. A glint of light reflected off a shiny surface inside and a squiggly line of carved snakes appeared beneath Harry's arm. Adrenaline spiked in his system, sending blood racing to his heart. He'd done it! "William, my friend," he said in a reverent whisper, "we've found the tomb of Vashti, daughter of Azhi, the Devil Shah of ancient Persia." "A princess, huh? She was probably daddy's little girl and completely spoiled. She better be loaded, is all I got to say." Will leaned his shoulder into the lid and it slid to the side, where it teetered for a moment then fell with a resounding whomp, shaking the sandy floor of the tomb."I think we've hit pay dirt, Will." Harry straightened, tossing the pry bar to the ground, excitement bubbling up in his belly at what lay before him. A smile stretched his lips across his face, and he flipped his hat in the air. "Do you realize what we've found? Do you have any idea?"Will stared down at the mummified remains of an ancient woman surrounded by decayed woven baskets and several unscathed decorative bottles. He frowned, his lips twisting in a lopsided grimace. "A mummy and some old bottles?"Harry laughed, his voice echoing off the chamber walls. "Will, look past the dust and decay. Don't you see the details in the finely woven gown she's wearing?. Look here, the embroidery is still intact. These symbols are those of the ancient lovers, Vis and Ramin. See the stone with the carving of a two-headed dragon laying over the mummy's head?""So, it just looks like a big dumb rock, to me." Will shrugged. "Big deal.""William, my man." Harry draped an arm around Will's shoulders. "Beneath that layer of dust is the most mystical stone known to man. Kings have fought wars to possess it, but it was lost long ago. Heinrich Schliemann himself couldn't find proof of its existence."Will's chest puffed out. "But we did it, eh?" He gave Harry a skeptical glance. "So, why's it so damn important?""Because of the legend." Will's lack of enthusiasm irritated Harry. He began to wonder what Will thought he'd been searching for all these months. "The legends say that whomever touches the Stone of Azhi will have great powers. Powers to change the world as we know it. Powers to make every wish come true." "My wish right now is for a ten pound steak and a woman to share it with." Will licked his lips. "Suppose it might be worth something back in the States?""It's priceless-if only for its historical significance. But there are many men who would pay a king's ransom for its professed magical properties." Will leaned over the mummy and reached for a dusty bottle. "I wonder what the bottles are for?""Probably contained the princess's favorite perfumes. Never mind them. It's the stone we want. No one's gonna pay for old glass when they can have all that power." "Shit, I've been three long weeks without the comfort of a woman." Will waggled his eyebrows. "Does it have the power to grant me a woman?"Harry was glad Will had finally understood the importance of their find. He slapped his friend on the shoulder. "Why settle for one? You could buy a dozen women with the money we'll make.""Hell, I might even buy you one.""No thanks." Harry lifted a bottle from the collection at the mummy's feet and brushed the dust from it. The blown glass reflected hues of deep sea green and blue, and was rimmed with gold bands."You aren't still mad about Fiona, are you?""Not in the least." He set the ornate container back in the sarcophagus. Will lifted another of the glass bottles and tossed it lightly in the air, catching it one-handed. "Good, she's not your type anyway."What was his type? Someone willing to follow him on wild chases across hostile continents? What woman in her right mind, would do that? Harry didn't know and really wasn't too interested in finding out. Last one, Fiona, had tried to hem him in with ultimatums. Had he stayed, he'd have resented her. Leaving her had been the only answer. "I'm so hungry I could eat a steak the size of Cleveland about now." Will grabbed for the stone at the same time as Harry."Wait, Will. We need to be careful." What if the legends were true? Could the stone be dangerous? When his fingers felt the smooth points of the two-headed dragon, tingling spread from Harry's hand up his arm and into his chest. The tingling turned to a burning sensation."What the hell?" Will staggered backward, his forehead creasing into a frown. He stared down at his hands and shook them. The floor trembled and the walls around Harry and Will shook. Dust rose and filled the air until Harry couldn't see the hand in front of his face, much less his friend. "Will!""Harry! What's happening?""I don't know." Harry's heart raced and his breathing came in short gasps, his lungs filling with sand. "I feel like I'm on fire.""Let's get the hell out of here!" Will called out.But the doorway remained shrouded in thick dust. The burning intensified until Harry felt he'd been seared by the sun. He gagged and choked on the sand rasping against the lining of his throat. Giant stones fell from the walls and ceiling. What a way to go. Just when he'd discovered the stone of Azhi, he'd die in the mummified arms of the devil king's daughter. The dim light from the torches snuffed out and blackness engulfed his tortured body. As if picked up by a tornado, he was jerked off his feet and sucked toward the sarcophagus, spiraling like a puff of smoke filtering through a tiny opening. His body screaming in pain, he could hear Will's terrified cries echoing his own. Then a loud thump ended the storm, sealing him in darkness. Harry drifted into oblivion, wondering what the hell had happened.

    Women of Allure, Sasha White

Meet Sasha, a fellow Canadian erotic romance writer and enjoy an excerpt of Gypsy Heart.

Sable Castle jerked her wrist quickly, sending the bottle of vodka twisting around her hand in a flashy spin before she poured a shot in the glass waiting on the scarred bar. She set the glass in front of one smiling guy before moving on to the next customer in line. Northern Alberta was in the middle of a summer heat wave and people were flocking to any place with air conditioning. Add to that the fact that it was Friday Happy Hour at The Zodiac, and the pub was hopping.
The hair on the back of her neck stood up sharply and instinct made her glance toward the door at the exact moment he stepped through it, entering the noisy pub. Mick Jagger's complaining about not getting any satisfaction faded into the background, along with the dozen or so customers standing directly in front of her vying for her attention at the oak bar.
    Wow!
Her mind went blank and her hands stilled as she let her eyes roam over him in appreciation.
He radiated “bad ass” with rough stubble along his jaw and shaggy midnight hair that brushed against the back of his neck. He had the air of a guy that knew how to show a girl a good time, and did so on a regular basis.
Looking him up and down, she took in the faded jeans and tight black T-shirt that covered a body good enough to eat, or at least nibble on.
    Oh Yeah.
She unconsciously licked her lips and brought her gaze up to his face only to find him watching her, a small smile twisting his lips. A fire started in her belly, bringing long dormant needs awake with a roar. Unable to tear her gaze away, she watched as he moved toward the bar, toward her, until the crowd shifted and the spell was broken.
    Thank God.
With her cleavage baring tops and tight jeans Sable might play up the image of the ‘bad girl bartender’ but it was mostly an act.
She had no problems flirting with customers and talking to anyone about anything under the sun when she was behind the bar. That was her job.
But when a man like that came around, a man that made her heartbeat pick up and her mind slow down, she had to fight not to morph back into that thirteen-year-old that had worn a C-cup when all the other girls were still stuffing their training bras. The one that had learned at an early age that boys, and men, were more interested in what was under her clothes than what was in her head.
A boisterous voice called her name and she glanced at the twenty-something hottie with the gaudy paper hat perched on his head.
“What can I get ya, cutie?" she asked him.
With a flip of her tousled curls and a saucy wink at the Birthday Boy, she forced herself to focus on work. She’d been joking with them for the last half hour or so while they hung out in front of her bar, taking turns ordering drinks and hitting on her.
This new shade of “Rock Star Red” lipstick was doing the trick tonight. The men were lining up and she could see her tip jar getting fuller by the hour. They flirted outrageously, and while none of them made her heart skip a beat, she still enjoyed every minute of it. Not much in life could feed a girl’s ego like a line-up of men panting after her.
These boys were out to have a good time and she accepted, even reveled in, the fact that she was part of the entertainment.
“How about a kiss?” the Birthday Boy asked, a silly grin on his face.
“Sure, honey. What the Birthday boy wants, the Birthday Boy gets,” Sable said with a smile as she turned to grab a bottle off the back bar amidst the hoots and hollers his friends let loose.
She slapped a shot glass on the bar, and filled it with Cinnamon Schnapps and Baileys before sliding it across the bar to him with a wink.
“Here’s a sweet Cinnamon Kiss from me to you.”
The group laughed and slapped him on the back as he saluted her with the shot before tossing it back. The ribald comments and laughter made it clear the pub was full of playful men tonight.
Her grin widened. The night was bound to be a challenge, and all she could think was, bring it on!
A deep voice interrupted the laughter.
“Whoever said ‘Ask and you shall receive’ should’ve told you to be more specific when asking a lady for favors.”
“Gage! You made it!” The birthday boy cried out in surprise.
    “Of course I did. I told you I would, didn’t I?”
Sable watched as the men embraced fiercely, their affection for one another obvious. She felt an unusual shyness slip over her at the sexy stranger’s appearance and glanced around for a distraction.
Katie, the waitress working the floor, stood at the other end of the bar with an impatient expression on her face, so Sable walked down to that end and filled her order while the group of men greeted the late arrival.
Awareness flowed through her as she heard his deep voice return greetings with natural warmth. She continued to sneak peeks at him as she worked, and felt her confidence, and her heart rate, surge when she caught him watching her too.
She knew she was pretty, men hit on her all the time. Mind you . . . they were usually too young, too old or too married for her tastes. Mental note: Check out his left hand!
Typical of most things in life, the men she liked, the ones that made her think naked thoughts, never hit on her. And since she didn’t believe in wasting her time dating someone for the sake of dating, she’d reached the ripe old age of twenty-nine without ever having a ‘real’ relationship. Not that she was a virgin. She’d had lovers. She’d just never had a boyfriend.
She’d just finished putting Katie’s order together when she heard one of the guys in the birthday group suggest they go to the back, where the pool tables were, for an impromptu tournament. Everyone in that group shuffled away amidst a chorus of challenges issued and bets being made.
    Everyone except him.
He leaned casually against the bar and watched her move back in his direction.
    Grrrrrr. Yum!
The fire in her blood spread, and she fought the old urge to hunch her shoulders and slouch. Instead, she put an extra swing in her hips and pasted a saucy smile on her face. She was not that overdeveloped teenager anymore. She was a woman. One that knew how to use her looks to get what she wanted.
“Hi there,” she purred, stopping directly in front of him. Glancing down, she quickly checked out his bare ring finger. “Can I get you something to drink?”
“Bottle of Bud, please.” A small smile lifted one corner of his mouth as he let his gaze roam over her body. The appreciation in his eyes made it clear that while some men might like the anorexic model look, he definitely enjoyed the sight of a woman with a bit more to her.
Dressed in a filmy rayon blouse that clung to her full breasts before flowing softly about her trim waist and a pair of tight jeans that stretched to cover her rounded hips, Sable knew she looked sassy, sexy and all woman.
She pulled his beer out of the cooler and turned back in time to catch his gaze on her ass. Exhilaration coursed through her body, making her nipples tighten and her cheeks flush. She welcomed the rush of sensations, and didn’t try to hide it.
A smile played at her lips and she quirked an eyebrow at him. “Anything else?”
He looked into her eyes for a long moment before replying. The answering flash of desire in his chocolate eyes made it clear he understood the loaded question.
“Not right now, thanks.” He winked, tossed a bill on the bar, grabbed his beer, and walked away.
Sable was glad he didn’t look back. Her knees had grown so weak at the reflected heat in his gaze she had to clutch the bar to stay upright.
    Whew!
    “Whoo hooo, Sable?”
An unadorned female hand with neat trim nails waved in front of her face, bringing her back to the here and now. Her boss was standing right next to her.
“Huh?” Sable stared blankly down at the tiny woman..
Dressed in a business suit with blonde hair pulled back in a meticulous French twist, Miranda Grey looked out of place. Behind the bar of a neighborhood pub that catered to the blue-collar crowd, she was like a mouse at a catnip convention.
“Oh!” Sable snapped back to the present. “Sorry, Mandy, what was that?”
Miranda was more than just The Zodiac’s owner; she was also Sable’s best friend. The open expression of amusement on Mandy’s face at the moment made Sable think she wasn’t hiding her feelings well at all, and Mandy’s words confirmed it.
“You look like you just got hit by a truck. What’s up?”
While Sable didn’t have many friends, the ones she did have, she trusted implicitly. So she blurted out her feelings without hesitation. “You know how I’ve never understood it when men I barely know call me Trouble?”
“Yes.” A tiny frown furrowed her brow.
    “Now I understand why.”
Miranda followed her gaze to where the stranger was chalking a cue. “He called you trouble?”
    “No. He is Trouble!”
“Ahhh.” Miranda’s head cocked to the side and she eyed her curiously. “Why?”
She turned to her friend with a devilish smile.
“Because he makes me wanna be bad.”

    How's your memory?

Are you an auditory or visual learner. Are you right brained or left brained? I took this test at www.memoryedge.com and was quite surprised by my results. I was certain I was a visual learner. I need to SEE things to understand them. Well, after I took the test, I found out I'm one of those rare people who are perfectly balanced. I know, I know you're all saying, Cathy, balanced! I don't think so! I was 50% Auditory, 50% Visual, 52% left brained and 48% right. Of course this is associated with good news and bad news. My balanced nature leads me to second guess myself in artistic endeavours and creativity. Now I understand why after I write something creative, my left side kicks in and says, what the hell was that?
Go take the test and share your results!

    Where did my day go!

I looked up from the computer screen and wondered where my last 3 hours went. It always surprises me how fast a day can go by when I'm deep into a story. I have two scenes left of my Avon book, Pleasure Prolonged. YAY me. My self imposed deadline to finish is Sept 11th.
If all goes well, I plan on taking the month of December off writing. I need to sit back, relax and refill my creative well.
I'm sure after the first week, I'll be itching to get back at the computer.
    It's like a crack addiction!
Speaking of cracks and addictions, I think I'll go look at some more pictures of Marky Mark now. slurp.

    Women of Allure, Delilah Devlin
Meet Delilah Devlin and enjoy one of her excerpts!!

Excerpt from Close Encounters of the Carnal Kind:

Etienne leaned forward, cuddling his beer between his hands, letting the silence wrap around his jangled nerves. Here in the swamp, in a hunting cabin filled with happy childhood memories, he hoped to finally shrug off his soul-deep sadness. He loved his brother and family, but he didn’t want to invite them into the dark place he’d been forced inside ever since Tekrit.

Arnaud had left half an hour before, frustrated and hurt—Etienne knew it, but couldn’t reach out to him, not yet. Maybe a few more days of staring out at the green, wet world around him would drown the memories of the sun-baked dirt that drank his buddies’ blood like a thirsty sponge.

He needed time to fit back into his old life. He snorted at that thought—like he’d ever really fit in to begin with. Taller by a foot than his brothers and swarthy-skinned to their olive, he’d often wondered if he hadn’t been traded in the bassinet at birth. And he’d never been satisfied with what life offered him in the bayou—it’s why he’d enlisted in the first place.

A twig snapped nearby, and Etienne froze. As if he’d never left Iraq, time slowed, and in one long moment he realized the crickets had stopped their raucous chirping, the owls no longer called to one another—he had a visitor.

Etienne eased from his chair, ignoring the cane, and slid into his cabin. The gun, already loaded with shot to pepper any reporter’s ass, stood next to the door and he reached for it.

Footsteps crunched closer, then climbed the wooden steps just as he swung back around with the shotgun cradled in his arms. But the woman who strode toward him wasn’t like any reporter he’d ever seen.

Her smile was tentative as she stopped in front of him. Her gaze was wide and curious as she stared up into his face for one long moment. Then she drew in a deep breath, lowered her gaze and knelt at his feet, pressing her forehead against his thigh.

Etienne felt a frown furrow his forehead, wondering what the hell was going on. He tried to nudge her away, but she grasped his calf and clung, speaking softly, the words guttural and lilting at the same time. Definitely not English, not like anything he’d ever heard in his travels.

When she rose, her eyes glittered with moisture, which she quickly blinked away. This time the smile she flashed was joyous.

Etienne’s suspicions roused and he glanced out into the darkness, wondering whether he was the butt of a joke and not liking it one damn bit.

The woman in front of him was too fresh-faced, too innocent-looking to be real. His glance raked over her body. She was clothed from her neck to the tops of her shiny brown boots in a skin-hugging material that looked soft as sueded leather, as soft and golden-brown as the large eyes she raised to stare up at him.

Color crept over his cheeks as he realized he’d stood frozen in place, transfixed by the woman’s beauty. Beautiful or not, innocent or not, she didn’t belong here. “Cher, you can turn right around and go back where you came from,” he said, the words coming out less harsh than he’d intended.

She smiled and started to speak again, and then rolled her almond-shaped eyes. Her hand lifted to her ear, and she tugged at the shiny stud stuck in her left lobe. “Sorry ‘bout dat. I forgot to turn on my translator,” she said in a Cajun accent.

Not a reporter, not with that accent. A Creole girl by the look of her. Etienne sighed and propped the shotgun beside the door. “All right, who put you up to this? Arnaud?”

She shook her head, which shivered her long, dark hair around her shoulders. “Didn’t Jacques tell you?” she asked, her expression falling. “He was s’posed to give you a message.”

His eyes narrowed. “I haven’t seen him since I returned. But you can tell him, thank you very much, but I’m not interested—however attractive you are, cher.” He turned to reenter his cabin.

A small, slim hand clamped on his forearm. “But you don’ understand how important dis is—”

Etienne shrugged her off, ignoring the plea in her large doe-like eyes. “Look, I’m sure you’re very good at…whatever it is you do—”

“I’m da best!” she said, eagerness shining in her face. “Dat’s why I’m here.”

“I can’t believe he thought I needed a whore,” Etienne muttered under his breath.

“A whore?” The woman’s face screwed up with a look of confusion. “Wait, I think I’m not translatin’ dat word correctly.”

“This is a joke, right?” Etienne blew out the breath he’d been holding since she appeared. “He sends you in that space costume, and you’re supposed to do what? Give me a ride?” His eyes widened, and he jerked back a little. “You’re not expecting to probe my ass, are you?”

“Only if you won’ surrender your sperm, Sire,”
